نبذة عن مبادرة OPTIONS

The Overdose Prevention Through Intensive Outreach Naloxone and Safety (OPTIONS) initiative is a coordinated effort of the Maine Office of Behavioral Health (OBH) and other state agencies to improve the health of Mainers with substance use disorder. OPTIONS supports treatment, secondary prevention, and recovery, aiming to reduce the number of fatal and non-fatal drug related overdoses.

OPTIONS Liaisons are behavioral health clinicians working in all 16 counties in Maine, employed by behavioral health organizations and contracted by the Maine Office of Behavioral Health. Liaisons work closely with local first responders including law enforcement and EMS, conducting  proactive outreach with communities at the highest risk of overdose, de-escalating behavioral health crises, providing post-overdose follow-up visits, and making referrals to support services. Through interviews with over 53 state and community leaders, the OPTIONS public health campaign strives to reflect and amplify the voices of Mainers affected by the overdose epidemic. In doing so, the campaign aims to:

  4. Connect people affected by the opioid epidemic with local prevention, secondary prevention, recovery, treatment, and general support resources.
